Speech Contest
We are excited to begin preparing for the 12th Annual Spanish Speech Contest on May 2, 2024. This week, we have sent communication about the contest to families and students. In order to further promote the event, we hoped that you would once again be able to invite principals to include a brief blurb about the event in their newsletters, and to feature the Spanish Speech Contest on morning announcements. Here is the District 54 Spanish Speech Contest website. Here is an example of a blurb to include:

Multicultural Event 2024 – Performers Needed!
Each year the Department of Language and Culture, along with the Schaumburg Park District, presents a Multicultural Event. The 2024 event will take place on Saturday, March 2, at the Community Recreation Center (CRC) and will showcase the diversity represented by the students of District 54. During the event, student groups have the opportunity to give performances that reflect various cultures. If your student is interested in participating, please complete the Performance Interest Form by December 6th. You will be notified whether or not your performance has been chosen to participate by email by December 13th.
Volunteers Needed for Multicultural Event
Each year, the Department of Language and Culture, along with the Schaumburg Park District, presents a Multicultural Event that showcases the diversity represented by the students of District 54. One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity for students and their families to learn about other cultures by playing games, completing crafts, and participating in other activities. We are looking for families who are interested in volunteering to plan and facilitate an activity that represents their culture at this year’s event on Saturday, March 2, 2024. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete an Activity Volunteer Interest Form by January 26, 2024. We will also be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, January 22nd at 3:45 p.m. at Mead Jr. High.
No Food Deliveries Allowed
With a focus on student and staff safety, District 54 will not allow food delivery services (including, but not limited to, GrubHub, DoorDash, and local restaurants) to our schools. We will continue to have hot lunch days, which are planned events, organized and supervised by school or PTA volunteers. However, we will no longer accept other outside food deliveries to keep our schools secure.
District 54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks. Please click here for additional information.
