Spanish Language Speech Contest

With guidance from Mr. Rivera five Eisenhower Jr. High students participated in the annual Spanish Language Speech Contest to promote the study and use of Spanish in our community. It was held on May 10th, at MacArthur Elementary School. There were two main categories: Native Spanish speakers and Spanish as a Second Language speakers.

The sponsors MacArthur Elementary School, School District 54′s Department of Language and Culture, and the Consulate of Spain in Chicago awarded Lauren S. [1st place, SSL], Juan S. [2nd, native speaker], Joey T. [2nd place, SSL], Christian P.[3rd place, native speaker] & Andy H. [3rd place, SSL]. Each one of them presented their own speech about different topics: Sports, Science, Bullying, Self improvement, etc.

This is the second time Eisenhower students have participated and won the majority of the first prize awards. Congratulations to all of the winners!!!

Hello! We wanted to send out some information and reminders about upcoming dates and events at Eisenhower.

PTA 2012-2013

As posted in the office and noted in prior emails, you are welcome to join the PTA meeting on Tuesday, May 15^th @ 7PM to
elect the 2012-13 PTA Board.

Registration Information

Registration packets for the 2012-13 school year were mailed home over spring break. Please complete the forms and return to school. Although the deadline has passed, we are still taking registration forms.

MAP Testing

MAP testing has concluded and we are gathering data! We are very proud of our Eagles and their accomplishments this year! MAP scores will be mailed home the week of May 11^th.

Sat. April 28th: Harper College’s College & Career Expo

Harper College will be holding its second annual College and Career Expo this
Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Avanté Center on our main campus in Palatine.
This event is designed for elementary and middle school students to explore
different careers and inspire them to go to college. The hallways of our Avanté
Center will be packed with interactive displays and hands-on workshops conducted
not only by Harper faculty, but representatives from area companies such as
Northrop Grumman, Astellas, Segerdahl Group and Hoffman Estates Community Bank
(see the list below below.)

As you know, college
readiness begins early. We appreciate any help you can give us to get the
word out about this important event. I have attached flyers in both English and
Spanish. The event is free and open to all students and their parents.
Reservations are welcome, but not required. More information can be found at

We wanted to give you some information about upcoming events and a few updates here at Eisenhower~

Graduation Pictures

8th grade graduation picture proofs have arrived and will be given to students in homeroom. If you are interested in ordering pictures, please return the picture order form by Tuesday, May 1st. No late pictures will be accepted. Please return proofs if you are not planning on ordering. Orders take approximately 3 weeks and will be given to students upon arrival.

PBIS Family Community Meeting

I have attached a flyer announcing a PBIS Family Community Meeting on May 1^st in our district for you. The purpose of this meeting is to help families understand PBIS and supports used at Eisenhower. PBIS Illinois will be running this informational meeting.

PTA McDonald’s Family Night-Pack the Place

Join us anytime between 5-8PM at McDonald’s (in Barrington Square) on Wednesday, May 2^nd to support the PTA~ 20% of proceeds will go directly to PTA to support Eisenhower. The flyer is on the website to bring.

MAP Testing

The Spring MAP testing will be on the dates listed below. Please help us to ensure your child’s success on this test by being in attendance on these days and encouraging them to do their best. The Spring MAP will show their overall growth during the 2011-2012 school year. Results will be mailed home in May.

Wed. May 2nd 5-8pm: Eisenhower’s McDonald’s Fundraiser

Come support Eisenhower Jr. High on Wednesday, May 2nd 5pm-8pm at McDonald’s on 2250 W. Higgins in Hoffman Estates. 20% of all proceeds will benefit our school (calculation based on the increase of regular sales). Monday, June 4th 7pm: 8th Grade Graduation @ Hoffman Estates High School

8th Grade Graduation-UPDATE

The Board has set the 8^th grade graduation for Monday, June 4th at 7:00PM at Hoffman Estates High School.

Each family will receive 6 tickets to attend the graduation at Hoffman High School. Also, as noted in the Parent/ Student Handbook, 8^th graders must complete all homework to participate in the graduation ceremony. Graduation Requirements-Each junior high school holds a graduation ceremony for eighth grade students. All eighth grade graduates are required to rent gowns for the ceremony. In order for an eighth grade student to participate in the graduation ceremony, the student must complete all academic assignments one week prior to the graduation ceremony. It will be the student’s responsibility to turn in all late or missing assignments. Failure to turn in even one assignment will cause the student to be excluded from the graduation ceremony. Extreme inappropriate behavior could also cause a student to be excluded from the graduation ceremony at the discretion of the school administrators.

Sat. April 14th: H.E.H.S. Barnes & Noble Fundraiser

The Hoffman Estates High School Community Literacy Outreach Barnes & Noble Bookfair is scheduled for April 14th. All proceeds will benefit District 54 literacy programs. To maximize the fundraiser potential we have also coordinated with Fuddruckers for a Books and Burgers fundraiser on the same day. If you are unable to make it the Barnes & Noble Bookfair is good for online purchases, just put in the Bookfair ID when checking out.
